NBC heeft vandaag bekend gemaakt dat Kevin Eubanks, Jay Leno’s bandleider, kort na de terugkeer van de Tonight Show zal opstappen. Hij heeft de zender verteld dat hij andere dingen wil proberen.

Wanneer hij precies de show verlaat en of de gehele band met hem mee zal gaan is nog niet bekend. Ook over een potentiële vervanger zijn nog geen uitspraken gedaan. In ieder geval zal hij er op 1 maart, bij de aanvang van Leno’s vernieuwde Tonight Show, nog gewoon bij zijn.

De Tonight Show zal worden uitgezonden vanuit de studio van Jay Leno’s prime time show in Burbank. Het decor wordt hoogstwaarschijnlijk wel aangepast. Leno zal dus niet terug verhuizen naar zijn oude studio in Burbank of de studio die indertijd voor Conan O’Brien is gebouwd op het terrein van Universal Studio’s.

De eerste promo’s voor de Tonight Show zullen volgende week worden uitgezonden tijdens de Olympische Spelen. Jay Leno heeft al veel aandacht gekregen door mee te spelen in een Super Bowl reclame voor de Late Show van concurrent David Letterman.

	Some timing huh? I guess this would not be as bad as Paul leaving Dave because of Kevin's lesser role as a sidekick. But still after all these years ... maybe he'll join Max Weinberg. You know, with Conan's new show to come to Fox.

	Here's a full translation I did for the curious: NBC has announced that Kevin Eubanks, Jay Leno’s bandleader, will be leaving shortly after the return of the Tonight Show. He told the network that he wanted to try out other things. When exactly he will leave and whether or not the whole band will go with him is still unknown. There have not yet been any announcements about a replacement either. At any rate he will still appear at the beginning of Leno's return to the Tonight Show as usual on March 1st. The Tonight Show will be broadcaset from the same studio as Jay Leno’s prime time show in Burbank. The set will in all probability be redesigned. Leno will therefore neither return to his old studio in Burbank nor the studio which was built for Conan O’Brien at Universal Studios. The first promos for the Tonight Show are to be broadcast next week during the Olympic Games. Jay Leno has already gained a lot of attention for his participation in a Super Bowl advertisement for Late Night with competitor David Letterman.

	I sure hope Conan doesn't go to Fox but following Jimmy Kimmel is the only other open slot and he deserves better than that, so I will allow it for CoCo's sake.

	This is the best new I've heard in relation to the Tonight Show in a long time. He was by far the worse part of the old Tonight Show and the Jay Leno Show. I hoped and dreamed that he would get thrown off and now finally we have arrived. I don't care who replaces him or wether or not there will be a band leader but it can only improve from here on.

	Forget about Branford and Kevin. They were both boring and non-involved musically. Say what you will about Paul Shaffer, but he can improvise with the music and actually play a part in the show (as can the Roots). If I have to listen to the female bongo singer doing the same 'put your hands together, everybody' schtick again and again I will be very sad. So ditch the brothers and employ some creative personalities instead.
